(SUNfoto by Fronske) VE THE WOMEN BY Ruth Millett Aritona Daily Sun And NEA Staff Writer TRYING TO GAIN FRIENDSHIP? DONT WORK HARD AT IT Maybe this sounds like a simple problem but I havent been able to figure out the answer. I meet a woman I admire and would like to have as a friend but how do I go on- from there Dont tell me to be friendly. Iv tried that and all I meet with is polite disinterest That letter homes 1 from a married woman in her thirties. I Wont tell her to put herself out to be friendly, because I suspect that her main trouble is that she has been trying too hard. People are funny.

Try too hard to please them and they are likely to be on their guard. Perhaps this is' because so many bores are so very friendly. Also, of course, the person who is bent on pleasing often loses all of his own personality. He appears SHEN STUDIO 112 W. All are reported getting along very well. Her parents reside at 130 Elliott street, Woodland, Calif. so anxious to be liked he doesnt hold any interest for the person he wants to like him. Try Developing Own Personality Instead of choosing the people you want for friends and trying to make them take a shine to you ypuU probably do much better if you widen your own interests, if you work to excel at something so that you are an interesting person yourself, and let your own person ality attract others to you. Youll learn a lot about attracting friends if youll study the people you, yourself, want for friends.

They havent been breaking their necks to please you, have they? They have probably gone right along being themselves, doing the things that interest them, getting what they want out of life. And because they seem to be successful at getting what they want and living to suit themselves, you think you would enjoy their companionship. If you find that to be true, and Im sure you will, then the lesson is obvious. Get busy living your own life, instead of enjoying the lives of those you feel are more successful, and you, too, will attract the interest of other people.
